Do-It-Yourself Packing

So you have the energy of a bunny rabbit and the stamina of Road Runner. You’ve decided you’ll do it all or at least most of it.

Gather these materials well ahead of time:

• Rigid, heavy-duty cartons of different sizes with good lids. Includes your wardrobe boxes, cartons, tote bins etc.
• (Tip: Do not use wooden barrels or boxes as they add extra weight and are difficult to work with)
• Unprinted newspaper, packing paper, bubble wrap, white paper, tissue paper, paper towel etc.
• Gummed tape or wide plastic tape to seal the carton
• Scissors, sharp knife or a box cutter
• Different colour markers, coloured labels etc.
• Moving folder or binder with your inventory sheet to note box numbers and contents

A few packing tips on the Go

• Plates should be packed on end vertically rather than placed flat and stacked
• Place pictures in boxes between blankets to give them added protection
• Pack heavy items in small boxes and light items in larger boxes
• Remove bulbs before packing your lamps
